How did the ever-increasing tensions and abuses of power lead to the colonists deciding to declare independence and start a war?  How did colonials determine whether their actions or the actions of others made them a patriot or a traitor; what elements of their lives/experiences helped lead them to their end decision. How was it that 13 unrelated colonies were able to defeat the largest empire in the world and gain their independence?

What is power and where does power to govern come from? How does conflict lead to change? How do literary devices affect the novel? What role do themes , motifs and symbols play in weaving the story?
